During emergencies, time is important. You can lose too much blood, run our of breath, and worst without prompt first aid treatment.
But what if you are alone and there is no one to help you?
Here are the common first aid treatment dos to help you survive life-threatening situations.
CHOKING
When something is blocking your throat and you are unable to cough or speak, it is a sign that you need abdominal thrust. Your aim is to push the object out fast. Good news is, Heimlich maneuver can be done even if no one is standing behind you.
STEP 1: Put your fist in between the belly button and the center of the bottom of the chest.
STEP 2: Grasp your fist with your other hand to create a support.
STEP 3: Lean over on the back of a chair and use its upper edge it to push your hand against your tummy.
STEP 4: Thrust your belly 5 times using short, sharp motions.
Repeat these steps until the obstruction is removed.
BLEEDING
During bleeding, you want to prevent the loss of too much blood. The aim is to make sure you reduce the blood that’s gushing out from the cut.
STEP 1: Get a clean cloth or towel.
STEP 2: Using the cloth, apply pressure to the cut.
Remember not to remove any foreign object stuck to the wound as it may be preventing more blood to come out. Let the medical professionals do this task.
STEP 3: If it is a hand that is bleeding, lift your arm above heart level (over your head) to reduce blood flow. If it is your leg, you can lie down and lift it.
STEP 4: Call the ambulance and keep pressure to your wound and raise the limb until medical help arrives.
SEVERED BODY PART
STEP 1: Do the same steps as the bleeding treatment but try to wrap the bleeding part with the cloth.
STEP 2: Take the severed body part and rinse it with water.
STEP 3: Put the severed body part in a bag of ice.
STEP 4: Call the ambulance and make sure to tell them the time of injury.
